Card - US Detailed Panel Logic Updates: 3/14/2025​

We are updating our temporal filter mappings in this dataset. This data feed was previously capturing transaction locations based on the company/brand entity location (store locations, company HQs etc). Temporal filters and location entities will now capture panel User location spend (i.e. where the panelist is spending) to improve accuracy.

  • Increased coverage at the zip/city/DMA level by ~4x
  • Fixed inconsistent location data, especially for online transactions
  • Location fields no longer derived from company and brand entity headquarters

Impact​

  • Increased spend and transaction volume in locations
  • More accurate/comprehensive geographic representation of transactions
  • State/ DMA/ City level spend insights will include over 4x the transactions

Logic Updates: Week Ending 12/27/2024​

  • Narrowed our panel based on representation and stability.
  • Started our panel base year in 2016.
  • Applied inactivity logic to drop panelists that stopped spending within the panel.
  • Excluded panelists with materially anomalous spending behaviors.
  • Applied logic to control for anomalous transactions at the panelist level.

Impact​

  • Spending trends are apples-to-apples and better reflect the population.
  • Exogenous events (e.g., COVID) are handled more robustly.
  • Updates support insightful member cohort models (coming soon).

Filter Changes​

  • Updated Logic: Defaulting users to Outflowing transactions.
  • New Mandatory Filter: All card views, except Market Share, now include mandatory filters for “Outflowing” vs. “Inflowing” transactions.

Definitions​

  • Outflowing Transactions: Funds exiting panel member accounts (e.g., spend, transfers).
  • Inflowing Transactions: Funds entering panel member accounts (e.g., paychecks, returns).
